Peace be upon you! There are misconceptions which makes Muslims and Non-Muslims not satisfied about Islam. In this post, I have collected all the misconceptions you may or may not be explained with the exact situation and what concept actually Allah says in holy Quran and Muhammed(sal) says in Hadidh.
1. People often watch activities and attitudes of Muslim people and convince themselves as “Islam is not that perfect” .
As like other religions, All Muslim people can not be that perfect in everything. The Perfect Man is ONLY Prophet Muhammed (sallallahu alahi vasallam). All of others are trying to attain the perfectionism in Islam.
Yes. Holy Quran and the deeds and preaching of Muhammed (sal) are only things you can watch deeply and judge yourself what islam is about.
2. Ignorant people says, Allah doesn’t have any shape. Allah is someone who we cannot imagine or compare with the things exists in this world we could see in everyday life because those things are the creations of Allah. We cannot compare the creator with His creations…Allah is someone apart from our imagination.
Al Quran Chapter 42 Surah Ash-Shura verse 11: There is Absolutely nothing like Him (Allah) in the whole Universe!!! He is the All-Hearing, The All-Seeing!! To Him Alone belong the keys of the treasures of the heavens and the earth!!
3. There are 1,24,000 prophets in Islam, from Adam to Muhammed. Prophet Muhammed(sal) is the last messenger of Allah. Out of 1,24,000 Prophet Muhammed (sal) has succeeded in conveying the exact message from Allah to the people in perfect manner.
I explain further how Islam has succeeded in conveying It’s messages to people by Muhammed (sal) apart from all other prophets and messengers.
Muhammed (sal) in his last Sermon asked the people not to build anything on his Qabr [burying place of himself] so that his following Ummah [People after his birth] cannot be misled by anyone in doing shirk [making companion with Allah] as like people worshipped prophets itself before Muhammed (sal) born.
Islamic people do call Allah with a singular high priority gender called ‘He’ for Him. So that people may not imagine that Allah is ‘Many’ or anything.
It is compelled to people only do sajdah [prostration] towards Allah. And whoever do sajdah for anyone or anything else will be punished in a crucial manner hereafter.
4. Is there any relationship between Muslims and Christians?
Yes. Actually Prophet Easa (Alaihissalam) is called Jesus by Christians. Christians will talk about all the people from Adam to Jesus, except that they don’t call Jesus as a messenger instead they call him as a child of God and follows child, father concept. Barnabas, one of the Twelve apostles has depicted the life of Jesus in his Gospel as follows.
Jesus answered: “The name of the Messiah is admirable, for God himself gave him the name when he had created his soul, and placed it in a celestial splendour. God said: ‘Wait Mohammed; for thy sake I will to create paradise, the world, and a great multitude of creatures, whereof I make thee a present, insomuch that whoso bless thee shall be blessed, and whoso shall curse thee shall be accursed. When I shall send thee into the world I shall send thee as my messenger of salvation, and thy word shall be true, insomuch that heaven and earth shall fail, but thy faith shall never fail.’ Mohammed is his blessed name.” Then the crowd lifted up their voices, saying: “O God, send us thy messenger: O Admirable One, come quickly for the salvation of the world!”
“And remember, Jesus, the son of Mary, said: O Children of Israel! I am the apostle of God (sent) to you, confirming the Law (which came) before me, and giving Glad Tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad. But when he came to them with Clear Signs, they said, this is evident sorcery!”— Sura 61:6
Christians doesn’t read Injil(called Bible), given to Jesus as the word of God in its own Hebrew language. Also they have edited, modified the original words and introduced new testamants. That is where the problem arises. Otherwise it will clearly make all the christians to follow Muhammed(sal) and his commandments.
5. Does Islam encourage terrorism?
Islam says, it is not wrong to cut right hand of one who cut right hand of you.
“The recompense for an injury is an injury proportionate to it; but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation he shall be rewarded by Allah; He does not like the wrongdoers.”
We have to concentrate on the preceding line “ but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation he shall be rewarded by Allah;” from which it also encourages patience.
The Holy Quran says,
“O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” (2:153)
6. How does Islam suggest a man to marry number of women – Prophet Muhammed (sal) and his wives:
“If you fear that you shall not be able to treat the orphans with fairness, then you should not marry the women with orphan children; marry other women of your choice: two, three or four. But if you fear that you will not be able to maintain justice between your wives, then marry only one or any slave girl you may own. That will be more suitable , so that you may not deviate from the Right Way.”[An-Nisaa 3:3]
According to history and research, Prophet Muhammed (sal) has married and lived with love from his age 25 to 50 with only khadijah, who was 15 years elder than him, with children from his previous marriages, was died in his 50. He then remained unmarried for two years mourning his late wife khadijah. Later, He often talked of his life with Khadijah in longing for her. After his 52, he started marrying women for various reasons such as spreading islam, making companionship’s with other nations,to practically live and prove the justice among all his wives, to show respect, love and mercy among all kind of women such as orphaned, divorcees and widows. But it is very difficult to maintain justice among many wives for a typical common man. It is better to go for one as per Holy Quran suggests.
7. divorce laws -how it is safe for women?
The Prophet Muhammed (sal) said, “The lawful thing which Allah hates the most is divorce.”
Islam has given the right to divorce in men’s hand. Physically men are strong by nature and women are weak. So A woman may not harm a man in asking relief from that marriage. Practically in many places we have seen the news stories that woman has killed because of dowry harassment, etc. But among Muslim families it is very rare to hear these stories just because of the reason that islam made ‘Talaaq’ a harmful word to tell to a woman and relieve her from that marriage. Those men often think that they have punished their wife in a better way and get satisfied. This is how Islam protects women.
Some laws regarding divorce:
“And the divorced women, too, shall have [a right to] maintenance in a goodly manner. this is a duty for all who are conscious of God.” [Al-Quran – 2:241]
“When you divorce women and they have reached the end of their waiting period (‘Iddat) either allow them to stay with honor or let them go with kindness; but you should not retain them to harm them or to take undue advantage; if anyone does that he wrongs his own soul. Do not take Allah’s revelations as a joke. Remember the favors of Allah upon you and the fact that He sent down the Book and Wisdom for your guidance. Fear Allah and know that Allah has knowledge of everything.”[Al-Quran – 2:231]
8. Does Islam harass women to wear hijab?
Everything that God created valuable within the world is roofed and hard to induce to. where does one find diamonds? Deep down within the ground, coated and guarded. where does one find pearls? Deep down of the ocean, coated up and guarded in an exceedingly lovely shell. wherever does one find gold? Deep down within the mine, coated over with layers and layers of rock. you have to work hard to find them.
Similarly Islam values women. So that it protect them inside hijab. In earlier days, Muslim women shield themselves inside cloth screen. Later on it evolved to standard hijab. That also with the laws came in Holy Quran by Allah and hadidh’s of prophet muhammed (sal) that it should not be tight fit, transparent or attention seeking one.
9. Some Good Mannerisms which Islam teaches:
“O you who believe! Do not enter houses other than your own, until you have asked permission.” [Sura-an-Noor, Verse:27]
“It is not permissible to sit between two people without their permission.” [At-Thirmidhi]
Suppose if a third person who doesn’t know our mother tongue is also there in a gathering, we often see people will neglect what that third person think and continue their mother tongue speech. The Prophet Muhammed (sal) says,
“If you were three, then do not whisper between the two of you ignoring the third till the number increases. This is because whispering will sadden him.”
Nowadays in schools and colleges we often see students ignore listening to lectures and teachers, make fun of them and hurt.
But Islam says, Listen to the one who speaks unto your face.
Equality in Islam:
The Last Sermon of Muhammad delivered on the Ninth Day of Dhul Hijjah 10 A.H (c. 630 AD):
“All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. You know that every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not astray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.”
Making Fun of others:
It doesn’t mean laughing at others itself wrong. We should not laugh at others in order to hurt them. Let’s see what Holy Quran say about it.
“O’ ye who believe! Let not some men among you laugh at others: It may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): Nor let some women laugh at others: It may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): Nor defame nor be sarcastic to each other, nor call each other by (offensive) nicknames: Ill-seeming is a name connoting wickedness, (to be used of one) after he has believed: And those who do not desist are (indeed) doing wrong.” [Sura Al-Hujraat 49:11]
10. Till date the Holy Quran is neither modified not corrected. It has the same wordings and verses till the last as like it is delivered to the Prophet Muhammed(sal) by the Angel Jebreal alaihissalam.
“Verily, it is We Who have sent down the Quran and surely, We will guard it (from corruption).”
Allah challenges to the mankind as follows.
“And if you (Arab pagans, Jews, and Christians) are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down (i.e. the Quran) to Our slave (Muhammad), then produce a chapter of the like thereof and call your witnesses (supporters and helpers) besides God, if you are truthful.”
